↑About Upton Tea Imports
Upton Tea Imports is a loose-leaf tea company, founded in 1989, and headquartered in Holliston, MA. Upton originally was located nearby in Hopkinton, MA. Upton is the tea company that inspired the creation of RateTea; Alex Zorach started ordering teas from Upton and created RateTea as a tool to keep track of teas they were drinking.
Upton mostly sells single-origin teas, and often sells ones in limited batches; their catalogue changes frequently. Their offerings include many organic teas, certified by Baystate Organic Certifiers, as well as a few fair trade certified teas. Many of their organic teas are comparable in price to corresponding non-organic counterparts. In addition to tea, Upton also sells a few teapots and tea-related accessories.
Upton publishes the Upton Tea Quarterly, a mail-order catalog and newsletter which also contains educational and historical information about tea. Past editions of the Upton Tea Quarterly are available on Upton's website, going back through 2006. An incomplete archive going back to 1998 can be found on archive.org.
In order to ensure freshness, Upton tea packages tea only when it is ordered, marks the date of packing, and personalizes the labels on each package of tea ordered.

No. 1 Tippy Orthodox GFOP Darjeeling
Style: Darjeeling Black Tea – Region: Darjeeling, IndiaMay. 21st, 2024
I decided to try something different. Instead of getting Upton's iced tea blend (which I like a lot) that is made from Ceylons and Darjeelings, why not get some Ceylons and Darjeelings and mix them together? This way I can also get to know the individual teas. This one did not let me down. It is on the mild side, b...
Read Full ReviewThis is a fruit tisane, nothing groaty about it. It is pretty tangy in the nostrils. The flavor is hibiscus mixed with blueberry and strawberry. It turns out that this is made of hibiscus, grapes, elderberries, blueberries, and flavoring. An enjoyable fruit tisane that would be probably be nice on ice.
Read Full ReviewThe aroma is nice, but mild, it has the earthy with hint od spice that is expected from a Assam. The liquor (5min steep) is a pleasant deep brown. The flavor is very mild with no after taste. Certainly, a decent all day sipping tea, with nothing remarkable about the tase.
Read Full ReviewThe aroma is earthy with a some notes of honey. The liquor is a deep brown/amber (5min steep). Bold flavor, with a bit of tartness. Slight smoky after taste. Good choice.
Read Full ReviewThis is a smooth, mild tea - but not lacking in flavor. It seems similar to a good quality Darjeeling or a Ceylon. A little overpriced imo, but good.
